Our Grade 9 students have been learning about reaction kinetics in chemistry class. In order to further investigate the effect of a catalyst on a reaction rate, our students performed “elephant toothpaste” experiments (decomposition of hydrogen peroxide using potassium iodide as a catalyst) with various amounts of the catalyst (potassium iodide).
