Primary Cambridge Programme

Cambridge Primary is an education programme for young learners that combines a world-class curriculum, high-quality support for teachers and integrated assessment. Cambridge Primary was launched in April 2005 for mathematics, science and English. English as a Second Language (ESL) was added later.

Cambridge International Primary provides a curriculum framework for 5-11 year olds to develop skills, knowledge and understanding in the core subjects of English/ESL, Mathematics and Science. Learners who follow the Cambridge International Primary curriculum can be assessed using the internally marked Cambridge Primary Progression Tests (Grades 2 to 5) and the externally marked Cambridge Primary Checkpoint (Grade 5 only), enabling attainment against international benchmarks to be measured. They test skills, knowledge and understanding from Stages 4–6 of the curriculum for English, English as a Second Language and mathematics, and Stages 3–6 of the curriculum for Science.

Key features of Cambridge Primary Checkpoint are:

  • The tests are marked by Cambridge examiners to provide a benchmark of learner performance.
  • Learners receive a statement of achievement and a diagnostic feedback report.
  • Feedback reports show how a learner has performed in relation to the curriculum, their learning group, the whole school, and against all learners who have taken tests in that series around the world.
  • Cambridge Primary Checkpoint helps teachers to monitor group and individual performance and manage future learning.

Students build more than just a deep understanding of their subject. They also develop higher order thinking skills so that they can apply what they have learned. Cambridge students at MEF play an active role in the classroom. They are asked to think critically to learn how to construct an argument and evaluate evidence. They learn to work independently and to collaborate with one another to bring a project to a successful outcome. They are encouraged to develop an international outlook and become confident, global citizens.
