Our School Community learnt some valuable information at the Earthquake Awareness Presentation which was delivered by Nasuh Mahruki on Tuesday.

Grade 5 shared their learning at the Primary Assembly last Friday. They acted out an example from their unit ‘Who we are?’ and encouraged the audience to participate in a Kahoot at the end. It was lots of fun. Well done grade 5 students and teachers.

After the assembly, Grade 5 parents were also invited to view their children’s portfolios in the classrooms.

Congratulations to the MEFIS Middle School Football Teams. Our girls finished 1st and second in the tournament held at IGA on Friday, and our boys finished 3rd in their competition. A fantastic achievement.

Our kindergarten students had a wonderful End of Unit Sharing at Yildiz Park. Parents and students brought games from home to celebrate our learning and the conclusion of our 'Games and Friendship' unit.

Our primary school students are still enjoying their in-school clubs on a Tuesday afternoon. This is messy play with Ms. Janeen and Ms. Perrin.
Our in-school clubs will continue until the end of Semester 1 (17th January 2020). After this, students will have the opportunity to choose another club for semester 2.

Here are some of our Grade 4 students practising their English by acting out a scene from the William Shakespeare play Macbeth with the help of our English Language teacher Ms. Marzhan. They did a great job, well done! |

MEF IS celebrated Children’s Rights Day on November 20. In PSE lessons with Ms Pelin students in grade 3, 4 and 5 worked on children’s rights and how those rights can be protected and promoted. Please come and visit our Children’s Rights Day exhibition in the assembly area. |

Parent Talk about The IB PYP approach to teaching and learning in different international schools by Ms. Mihaela, Mr. Simon and Ms. Pelin with the participation of our students to show how students’ home languages are recognised and how languages and social emotional learning is connected in an international IB PYP school. |

The MEF IS Animal Care Club is raising funds to ‘adopt’ a fennec fox. The money raised will be sent to the World Wildlife Fund, for the protection of these animals and their environment. When the fox is ‘adopted’, the WWF will send us an ‘adoption kit,’ including a toy fennec fox, information, and a certificate. There is a donation box and information on the main floor at the reception, and on the second floor. |

Primary teachers have created a shared definition of what building resilience means for our students at MEF IS. This will be a whole year focus for our students and teachers. |

The Secondary School celebrated Reading Week this week with a number of events. On Monday at lunch we watched Turkish role plays related to texts studied in Turkish classes. |
|
All students and teachers Dropped Everything and Read for 20 minutes each day of Reading Week. |
|
On Tuesday and Thursday, students came to the canteen to play English games and have fun together as part of Reading Week. |
|
MEF University students who are studying to be mathematics teachers visited MEF IS in order to observe teachers and gain a better grasp of the day-to-day lives of teachers and students alike on Wednesday, November 20th. |

Students in PSHE have continued building on their Relationships unit to explore how their behavior, especially kindness, affects their relationships.
Grade 6 looked at the different kinds of relationships they have and discussed ways to show kindness at different levels of relationships (19A).
Grade 7 looked at the short- and long-term effects of kindness and caring on all of their relationships (19B) as well as how communication can help or hurt their relationships.
Grade 8 is exploring what makes a relationship healthy or unhealthy and what problems commonly occur in relationships. They looked at how to prevent as well as solve these problems in a healthy way (19C&D).

The MEF IS IB2 TOK students ‘pitched’ their ‘TOK Presentation’ proposals to classmates Friday afternoon. Students practiced their ‘active listening skills’ in mini-meetings with each of their TOK peers. We are so proud to see their growth as analytical and knowledgeable change-makers! |

21A-B Jacobs University (JU) in Bremen, Germany, hosted College Counselors from Europe, Asia and the Middle East to show us the warm and welcoming community that is JU. Ranked 10th in THE’s Small University category, JU offers students a rigorous and well rounded education, while providing a unique environment. |

Each Thursday the MEF IS High School Boys’ and Girls’ Volleyball Teams participate in focused drills that help them to achieve their individual and team ‘next-best-levels’. Their dedication to the sport and to their team is inspiring. |

Fine Arts Night, featuring musical performances and artworks, will take place December 5th. The art exhibition is in the foyer next to the auditorium at 6 p.m., and the music concert is in the auditorium at 7 p.m. |

IWI (International Women of Istanbul) Winter Festival will take place on Sunday, December 1 from 10:00 a.m. - 17:00 p.m. in the Istanbul Marriott Hotel in Sisli. Not only will MEF IS have a booth at the event, but you will also be able to find festive entertainment, prizes, an international food court, and over 80 shopping stalls (see https://www.iwi-tr.org/WINTER-FESTIVAL). |
