Reading Week January 27-31

Our Grade 1 students used last week’s rain as inspiration for their artwork. Here are some examples of their paintings.

Kindergarten enjoyed listening to stories in 3 different languages this week. Thank you to the ECC staff and parents for organising this activity.

Students participating in the Recycled Art Club have been working on some exciting projects recently. Here some of them in action. Thank you to Ms W and Ms Donna for running this Club.

Grade 2 to 5 Parents: The Lunar New Year 2020 is on January 25th. We are celebrating and learning about it in the library next week. If you would like your child to bring a Korean/Chinese food dish to the library next week, please contact Ms Goldie by this Friday latest. Email: abaeeg@mefis.k12.tr or you can drop in to the library this week.

This week our Kindergarten classes have been reading the book "Silly Billy". Billy is a worried child but with his grandmother's help, he learns to tell his worries to the "worry dolls". Kindergarten children then created their own worry dolls in PSE. Thank you for sharing this Ms Pelin. |

Grade 2s have also been working on states of matter. Here is an experiment they did with solids, liquids and gases. This one is called the great snowman melt! Thank you to Ms Jesi and Ms W for sharing this. |

This week our Grade 3s visited the “time travel in Istanbul” exhibition at the Rahmi Koc Museum. This was part of their current unit ‘Where we are in Place and Time’. Thank you, Ms Isla and Mr Jason for organising this exciting trip. |

In preparation for Reading Week Ms Goldie and Ms Kate went to visit Happy Nest, a bookshop/workshop venue run by one of our parents. Happy Nest will have a stall selling a great selection of English books along with some other vendors during our Reading Week. It is never too late to start practicing good study habits! Revising with friends can help students fill in the gaps for each other and understand the subject more fully. |

In PSHE-8, students completed their Relationships Unit by creating a “Recipe for Friendship” and a “Relationship Wordcloud.” |

Today marks the end of exam week 2 and the end of semester 1. This is an excellent opportunity to reflect on academic performance and set SMART goals for semester 2. |

Both the high school boys and girls basketball teams were in action at the weekend in a friendly tournament at Robert College. Strong performances from both teams gave great encouragement for the season ahead. |

The anime club got a drawing tutorial from MEFIS’ own Ms. Kucukoruc in order to design themselves as an anime character. Then later headed to Besiktas and Kadikoy for sushi and mangas. |

MEF Seniors are working steadily to meet the Regular Deadlines for university applications that are in mid-January, and will continue to submit applications over the next couple of months for later applications. Thus far, the Class of 2020 have accrued 55 ‘offers’ between MEF National and International High Schools, a truly impressive achievement! |
